The effects of deploying large-scale geoengineering experiments cannot be known at planetary, regional, or local scales. Geoengineering experiments violate the principles of climate justice because there are no procedural grounds for fair representation in decision making or knowing which populations may suffer disproportionate harms. This line of inquiry deflects money and scientific expertise away from studying and managing climate solutions based on alternative energy sources and the political support to implement them.
