“Techno-fixes” bring unintended consequences that will themselves inspire calls for additional techno-fixes. We are living with the accumulated consequences of countless manipulations of naturally-occurring, self-regulating systems at various scales. Those consequences may be altered and redistributed, but they will not be slowed or reversed by enhanced manipulation at a planetary scale.
