Solar radiation management (SRM) would not only cool the planet but largely change the planet\’s spatial energy distribution with the potential to severely disrupt global monsoons with dire consequences for ecosystems and billions of people. In addition, a termination shock when suddenly stopping geoengineering has the potential to extinction level impacts in years. Moreover, the absence of a global consensus on the optimal climate could lead to severe geopolitical tensions, or even wars.
